Roaches & Pests at Eight 80 Newport Beach Apartment Complex
Upon moving into my first unit at Eight 80 Newport Beach, I immediately noticed dead roaches in the kitchen sink. Little did I know, this was just the beginning of a terrible experience living in this apartment complex. Roaches seemed to infest every corner of my living space – they were in my electronics and appliances, lurking in drawers, cabinets, on the floor, and even in the carpet. They became so invasive that they triggered my smoke detector every night between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m., using it as an access point into the apartment. I was forced to disconnect it from the wall just to get some sleep. Cooking and storing food at home became impossible, and after enduring this ordeal for several months, I reached out to management about moving out.
Despite multiple treatments, the roach problem persisted. It was evident that the issue extended beyond just one unit and required more than temporary fixes. However, when I expressed my concerns to UDR, the property management company, I was met with sympathy but no viable solutions other than continuing with ineffective band-aid treatments. If I moved out, they would have me on the hook for the rest of my lease and they made that clear. Eventually, they offered to relocate me to a new unit as a resolution. While I accepted the offer, I soon discovered that I had traded roaches for ants.
Though not as repulsive as roaches, the ants presented their own set of challenges. Almost every morning, I would wake up to find ants infiltrating my living space, prompting a routine of spraying them down with cleaning solution and meticulously cleaning my appliances, particularly my Keurig, to prevent any from ending up in my coffee. All of my food had to be kept in zip lock bags placed inside of containers. Throughout the day, I had to remain vigilant, constantly monitoring and eliminating ants to prevent their numbers from escalating.
Despite my efforts, I never truly felt comfortable in my home at Eight 80 Newport Beach. Since moving into a similar large complex about two years ago, I have not encountered a single roach or ant. This experience has taught me the importance of thorough research before choosing a large apartment complex, and I share it in the hope that it serves as a cautionary tale for anyone considering this property.
